Artist's Statement

My work focuses on ongoing sculptural and social concerns, but its content is also informed by the idea of the performance of objects and their link to the domain of function and how we distinguish craft from art and how ideas inform the work and how the work expresses the idea.

The vases and cities are vessels that promote contemplation and reflection.  The method of sawdust and raku firing reflects and connects earth, wind, fire and water.  The carbon markings created during this process are delicate, fleeting and suggest the impermanence of a state of being or a frame of mind.

The bowls and carved images are sculptural vessels that traditionally have connected craftsman to those in the community.  The images are not only decorative but are created in the spirit of affirming life and living.
